A day when conductors can enjoy the bus ride

I see the conductors moving even though the bus isn’t. Each stop brings more responsibility for the conductors; they must keep track of passengers boarding the bus at each stop.

The conductors wish they had a third eye, probably at the back of their heads, to simultaneously track what’s happening in the front and rear of the bus.

People who love to travel without a ticket can easily camouflage in the packed bus, but the conductors’ eyes can hunt the ticketless travellers no matter how good the camouflage is.

Some conductors even have a memory as sharp as Sherlock holmes.

If you ask a conductor to give you a heads up when the bus is about to reach your stop, most of the time, the conductor will do that, although you would have asked him a long time ago.

Tribute to conductors

The Bangalore Metro Transport Corporation (BMTC)had declared 15th August 2022 as a free travel day for all passengers to celebrate India’s 75th Independence day, but I believe an underlying reason for the free travel was paying tribute to the conductors.

They deserve at least a day in the year where they can enjoy the bus ride without bothering to watch out for ticketless travellers.
